Characteristics of uhmwpe sheets
High wear resistance: UHMWPE has the best wear resistance among plastics, improving with higher molecular
weight of polyethylene.
High impact resistance: lmpact strength of UHMWPE correlates with its molecular weight, peaking around 2 mil-
lion and potentially decreasing with higher weights.
Low friction coefficient: UHMWPE has very low friction and excellent self-lubricating properties, ideal for bear-
ings and liners.
Excellent chemical resistance: Resistant to most acids,alkalis, water, and detergents, except concentrated nitric
and sulfuric acids.
Low water absorption: UHMWPE absorbs minimal water,swelling less than nylon.
Good thermal properties: Heat distortion temperature is 85°C, usable up to 90°C under lighter loads, and remains
ductile down to -269°C.
Excellent electrical properties: Maintains high electrical resistivity and breakdown voltage over wide tempera-
ture and frequency ranges.
Non-toxic: Odorless, tasteless, and safe for food and drug contact according to FDA and USDA standards.
