What is a PTFE rod?
PTFE rod, also known as polytetrafluoroethylene rod, is a rod-shaped material made of polytetrafluoroethylene resin through extrusion or molding processes.

Advantages of PTFE rod
Chemical stability. PTFE rods have extremely excellent chemical stability and are almost unaffected by any chemical substances. It can withstand corrosive media such as strong acids, strong alkalis, and strong oxidants, and can maintain stability even in high temperature and high concentration chemical environments.
Electrical Insulation. PTFE rods have excellent electrical insulation properties, with low dielectric constant and dielectric loss, and can maintain good insulation even in high-frequency and high-voltage electrical environments.

Limitations of PTFE rod
Weak mechanical performance. Its mechanical strength and stiffness are relatively low, and it is prone to deformation or damage when subjected to heavy pressure or impact, making it unsuitable for situations with high requirements for strength and rigidity.
Insufficient low-temperature performance. In extremely low temperature environments, PTFE rods become brittle and their toughness decreases, which affects their performance and can easily lead to component damage.
The main function of the PTFE rod
PTFE rods mainly have sealing, anti-corrosion, and insulation functions. It can be used as a sealing gasket to prevent medium leakage, provide anti-corrosion protection for chemical equipment, and also serve as an excellent electrical insulation material to ensure the safe operation of equipment.
The working principle of the PTFE rod
The working principle of PTFE rod is mainly based on low friction coefficient to reduce friction loss and component wear; Strong chemical stability, resistance to corrosive media, and prevention of pollution; Stable operation at different temperatures with high and low temperature resistance; Non sticky, anti material adhesion, and self-cleaning function; Good electrical insulation ensures safe operation of electrical equipment and high-frequency insulation application.

There are various types of PTFE rod , how to choose the one that suits you
一、Chemical corrosiveness
1.Type of medium. If the medium in contact has strong corrosiveness, such as strong acids, strong bases, organic solvents, etc., then PTFE rods with high purity and excellent chemical stability should be selected to ensure that they are not corroded or undergo chemical reactions when exposed to corrosive media for a long time, thereby effectively protecting equipment and ensuring the safety and stability of the production process.
2.Concentration and temperature. The corrosiveness of certain chemical media varies at different concentrations and temperatures. For high concentration and high temperature corrosive media, it is even more important to strictly select PTFE rods with strong corrosion resistance. If necessary, relevant chemical resistance data or consulting with the manufacturer can be referred to determine the appropriate product.
二、Mechanical performance requirements
1.Strength. In applications that withstand high pressure or load, such as piston rings, sealing rings, etc. in mechanical engineering, PTFE rods with high strength need to be selected to prevent deformation, rupture, and other damage during use, which may affect the normal operation of the equipment.
2.Hardness. For some occasions that require wear resistance and scratch resistance, such as bearings, gears, etc., PTFE rods with higher hardness should be selected to improve their wear resistance and service life. However, an increase in hardness may lead to a slight decrease in flexibility, and the relationship between the two needs to be balanced according to specific applications.
三、Working temperature
Low temperature environment. If the application scenario is in a low temperature environment, such as in cryogenic equipment, aerospace low-temperature components, PTFE rods with good low-temperature performance should be selected to ensure that they can still maintain good flexibility and physical properties at low temperatures, without problems such as embrittlement and fracture.
High temperature environment. When used in high-temperature environments such as sealing of chemical reaction vessels and support of high-temperature pipelines, PTFE rods with strong heat resistance should be selected. They can maintain stable molecular structure at high temperatures, without softening, deformation, or decomposition, thus ensuring the normal operation of equipment.
四、Size specifications
Diameter. Determine the diameter of the PTFE rod based on the specific installation location and usage requirements. For example, insulation gaskets used in small electronic devices may only require smaller diameter PTFE rods; As bearings for large machinery, larger diameter rods are required to meet the load-bearing capacity.
Length. The selection should be based on the spatial layout and required length in actual applications. For example, when manufacturing long conveyor belts, it is necessary to choose PTFE rods of appropriate length to reduce splicing, improve production efficiency and product quality.
